CSX Corporation (NYSE:CSX) today released its 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report detailing the company’s environmental, social, governance and financial performance. The report also provides an insightful look at CSX’s business markets, including a detailed review of the diverse portfolio of products transported over its network.

At CSX, it is understood that succeeding as a business requires a relentless commitment to promoting safety, protecting the environment and engaging with local communities. The full PDF report, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) index and web-based highlights are accessible at the company’s microsite,, which highlights CSX’s sustainability efforts in action.

Examples of CSX’s 2012 progress include:
  • Achieving the best personal injury rate in the company’s history.
  • Committing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 6 to 8 percent by 2020.
  • Acting “Beyond Our Rails” and providing more than $14 million in community investments and more than 26,000 volunteer hours.
  • Hiring approximately 2,400 employees, 26 percent of whom are military veterans.
  • Making capital investments of $2.3 billion, including investments related to public-private partnerships, in the CSX network to continue delivering excellent customer service.

The CSX CSR report provides a comprehensive look back at 2012 and also serves as a guide for the future. CSX plans to use this report to engage further in important conversations with its stakeholders about how CSX can continue to make progress in its sustainability and corporate social responsibility efforts.
